Abstract:

This study aims to describe the denotative and connotative meanings of the online game Mobile Legend: Bang Bang in terms of communication effectiveness.
The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative.
The data source for this study was the MPL ID Season 9 grand final. The data in this study are words used in the online game Mobile Legend: Bang Bang, which contain denotative and connotative meanings. The data collection techniques used were recording, observing, and taking notes. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis. The data analysis used was data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The study yielded a total of 30 data points and 34 signs. These data, including those from commentators' or casters' comments and netizens' message columns, have both denotative and connotative meanings. Denotative meaning is the actual meaning, while connotative meaning is a different meaning from the actual meaning, depending on the context. The term is then described in terms of communication effectiveness, using indicators such as message recipient, message content, communication medium, message format, message source, and timeliness.
