Hydroquinone is a class of phenols that have water-soluble properties. The
dangers of using hydroquinone in cosmetics include causing ochronosis (sandy,

presence or absence of hydroquinone content in facial whitening creams sold in
online media. The samples studied were 3 face whitening creams sold in online
media with thin layer chromatography method. The qualitative test results of
hydroquinone with FeCl3 reagent 1%, obtained the results of samples A, B and C
positive hydroquinone. The results of the color reaction test with Benedict
reagent, O-phenanthroline and thin layer chromatography test results using the
mobile phase methanol P: chloroform P (50:50), showed positive whitening cream
samples containing hydroquinone, namely samples A and C. The conclusion of
this study is that there are 2 positive samples containing hydroquinone, namely
